This is the year we have to install a new roof. I don’t like spending money on things I can’t see or don’t make a difference to the look of my house, but it must be done. It can’t be avoided any longer. On the upside, when it’s complete we will paint the exterior of our house. This will make me sooooo happy.
Most mornings me and my dog, Sugar, go for a little jog around our neighborhood. I have used this time to really pay attention to the homes in my neighborhood. I need front exterior inspiration.
Here are a couple of pictures I took while on our jog. Please excuse the quality. One, I didn’t have my glasses on and two, I didn’t want the homeowner to think I was casing the joint.
First up is this adorable cottage. They used two bold colors, yellow and royal blue. I am probably not this brave but I can appreciate it. The homeowner has added a small cabinet that holds books for people to borrow. What a great way to give back to the neighborhood and share your love of reading. This next photo has nothing to do with front entry, but I love it. It reminds me of something you might find on the French Countryside.Although I am not a red girl I wanted to show you what this homeowner did to tie in the red door to the rest of the exterior. Again, I apologize for the quality, but if you zoom in you can see that they added a tiny strip of red around the window. I love this idea. It makes the exterior that much more interesting and cohesive.Another pop of color with classic black and white.Another bold color choice. It looked so cute in the Fall with pumpkins on the front porch. Finally, on to some quality photos. Loving this dark blue. Adding the white “Hello” is a whimsical addition.Another fun blue.I don’t have the guts for pink, but I absolutely love this look. This pink is slightly softer and might be a contender.
I tried to pull up Door Color Trends for 2017 but I couldn’t find them, so 2016 is the next best thing. I am loving the blues and greens.
Here are a couple of greens I found on Pinterest.
Fixer Upper uses a lot of natural wood colors for front doors and garage doors. Just another option to consider.
I will keep you posted on the choice of color and of course, the process. Do you have a favorite accent color for the exterior? Please share, I love hearing your ideas.
